Money Story 3

I’ve been in a freeze state for the past year.

After getting pregnant I couldn’t find the focus to work. My body was putting all its energy into weaving together my baby. My bank account was not set up to support this reality.

I was a spiritual entrepreneur who loved her work but had very little financial stability.

When the genocide in Gaza started gaining visibility last year I wanted to do something, but my energy was low and my bank account was even lower.

I couldn't fund my own projects or my own life, let alone contribute to direct aid to people living under violence.

I picked Visioning A New World: Financial Strategies for Faith Folk to be the week of Indigenous Peoples’ Day for a reason related to this.

As stewards of land and kinship our Indigenous siblings teach us about relations, abundance, and the power of communal resistance.

Colonialism has infected this world—from Turtle Island to Palestine—we can see the sickness of disconnection, greed, and distorted power.

Decolonizing is about letting go of the belief that the systems in place can save us.

Future-visioning operates in tandem with decolonizing, and building worlds and new systems is a part of that work.

One of my favorite quotes of my co-teacher Isha Vela is, "I believe that the master's tools don't dismantle the master's house but that we can leverage and game the master's tools (i.e., the money system) to provide us with the capital required to create new tools that in the right hands-will co-create new. more compassionate and humane systems."

I’ll share about some shifts I’ve made in the past year so that I can support my little family AND be resourced to build new worlds of liberation and transformation. And then we’ll share tools for leveraging your resources so that you can contribute to new pathways of liberation and abundance for all.
